Weslynne Ashton is an Associate Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology with joint appointments at the Stuart School of Business and the Institute of Design. As a sustainable systems scientist, her research, teaching and practice are oriented around transitioning our socio-ecological systems towards sustainability and equity. She studies the adoption of socially and environmentally responsible strategies in business, and the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing social and environmental challenges. Her current work focuses on increasing sustainability and equity in the Chicagoland food systems. She is analyzing viable business models for aggregating local produce grown by Black and Brown farmers, and supplying healthy, local food to Black and Brown communities. ///// Weslynne Ashton es Profesora Asociada en el Instituto de Tecnología de Illinois con nombramientos conjuntos en la Escuela de Negocios Stuart y el Instituto de Diseño. Como científica de sistemas sostenibles, su investigación, enseñanza y práctica se orientan a la transición de nuestros sistemas socioecológicos hacia la sostenibilidad y la equidad. Estudia la adopción de estrategias social y ambientalmente responsables en las empresas, y el papel de la innovación y el espíritu empresarial para abordar los desafíos sociales y ambientales. Su trabajo actual se centra en reforzar la sostenibilidad y la equidad en los sistemas alimentarios de Chicago. Analiza modelos comerciales viables para agregar productos locales cultivados por agricultores afroamericanos y mestizos, y suministrar alimentos locales saludables a estas comunidades.
